The Camel Who Cried

Unknown

A nomadic family in Mongolia’s Gobi desert faces a problem when a white camel colt is born in a difficult delivery and the mother rejects it. Repeated efforts by the extended family to get the mother to nurse the colt fail. The colt stands alone and cries for its mother. The family worries that the colt will not survive. Finally, Dude (Enkhbulgan Ikhbayar), the older boy, is sent to a nearby town to find a musician who can perform a […]

Wacky Cake

Wacky Cake

It’s like the universe was whispering (loudly) in my ear….  “Make me a Wacky Cake”.  I haven’t had Wacky Cake in probably 40 plus years, but now here it was in my inbox…on Pinterest and now on some of my favorite food blogs.  I’m always perusing recipes on the internet and ran across a variety of cake recipes – all with different names and all with the same ingredients. There’s always some kind of name assigned to it that gives […]

Homemade Wrinkle Releaser…Effective and Cheap!

IMG_2894

Since I retired my closet is a reflection of a whole new life.  Gone are the pencil skirts, high heels and jackets.  Instead a cotton tee in almost every color…I have them in short sleeves and long sleeves.  I have cotton skirts …. of course in coordinating colors with all those tees.  My pants are limited to a couple of favorite jeans and a pair of great fitting black pants. I’m not a fan of laundry – it’s been known […]

Apple Peeler, Corer, Slicer….but mostly a good idea

IMG_2303

I’m originally from Michigan.  We have apples and cinnamon in our blood stream up there.  Growing up, Apple Crisp was one of my favorites desserts.  I, of course, started making Crisps and Pies when I was out and on my own too.  It didn’t matter if it was an Apple Pie or a Crisp the worst part was peeling all those apple!  When I unpacked my first kitchen gadget in the mid 80’s I was fairly new to the Kitchen […]

Ham & Gouda Grit Cakes with Tomato Gravy, Y’all

Unknown-1

I’m a northern girl…even though my husband and I have been moving around the midwest the last 15 years, I’ve always had my heart set on living in the South.  Well we finally made it!  About 6 months ago we settled in Atlanta.  It’s been an extraordinary experience – let me tell you something; Southern Hospitality is not just a rumor.  Along with the great weather, the people here are wonderful. We’ve been busy sampling all the new restaurants and […]

The South Beach Diet (Gluten Free!) Turkey Meatloaf

turkey-meatloaf-with-mushroom-15466-detail

Look, here’s the deal…. Anybody can alter a recipe to become gluten free by substituting one of the many gluten free flours or “packaged” products on the market.  I’ve been a celiac for years and I realized very early in this process that the key to my eating happiness was going to be, stay away from “fake” food and focus on creativity using “real” food.  The other challenge was going to be, how to simulate some of our favorite comfort […]

Sautéed Chicken Breasts with Oven Dried Grapes

This is another Rozanne Gold Recipe from her Cooking 123 Cookbook.  This recipe is so good, I’ve even made it for company!
