Narcissist Mother? Ten Steps To Moving On

Sick person

Everybody’s problems are always easier to resolve than our own.  Right? As I was talking (well, actually texting) with a friend about the issues she was having within her own relationship with her narcissistic mother,  I was trying to convert what I was thinking into a short text speak kind of way.  My “Aha Moment” was, “Wow, this seems so clear to me now, I wish someone had showed me these steps years ago,”  the answers to my friends frustration and anger […]

What A Difference A Tune Makes…[explicit]

file00037074989

It has been my good fortune to have the universe, a handful of eclectic radio stations, iTunes, my iPod, and now some really great streaming music apps (Songza & Pandora my favorites) to deliver the exact tune at the exact right time to turn my mood around…It doesn’t surprise me anymore, perhaps my surprise has morphed into appreciation.  The timing is what makes it so magical.  Its is magical when a song comes on randomly and it’s exactly what you […]

I’ve Looked At Life From Both Sides Now…

It was 1971, I was about 15 years old and singing the song “Put your Hand in the Hand” by “Ocean” in the back seat of our family car.   That particular song had a lot of key changes to it and as I recall, I was making every one of them perfectly.  I was used to singing to myself and would sing all the different parts of a song (I was my own back up band!).  My brother, Dick, […]

Lessons from a narcissist mother

132922595

You know that feeling you have in the middle of the night?  The one where you’re laying in bed wide awake, your mind is busy and you can’t find a position that brings you any comfort or a quiet mind.  Your tossing and turning in the quest to get comfortable seems like an endless struggle and you long for it to be over…eventually, you begin hoping for daylight. Then it happens.  You move just a foot or maybe even an […]

Abuse, Neglect or just plain Mean….Which label fits your Mother?

I ran across an interview after reading a very old blog post (from 2009) regarding a book called Mean Mothers:  Overcoming the Legacy of Hurt, by Peg Streep.  I found an old blog post (Check out the Breaking the Taboo of Mean Mothers Post here).  After looking for more information on this book and its Author I discovered an interview done with it’s author on ABC News by Robin Roberts.  (See Interview Clip Here) After reading the dated blog and watching […]

Cool Calm & Contentious

I have a new favorite, well two.  Merrill Markoe and her book Cool Calm & Contentious.  Merrill Markoe is an author, an Emmy Award-winning television writer and a sometime standup comedienne, and her mother was just as crazy as mine was.  As she says on The Daily Show, what’s bad for childhood trust issues is good for comedy.  I must say I am enjoying this very much! From the Daily Show http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/mon-november-28-2011/merrill-markoe From Barnes & Noble: In this hilarious collection […]

Is This Your Mom?

Narcissism is a spectrum disorder with the most severe end of the spectrum considered a narcissistic personality disorder. A woman can have several narcissistic traits and not fit the personality disorder. Mothers with only a few traits listed can negatively affect their daughters in insidious ways which is explained in Dr. McBride’s book. Is This Your Mom?.  [See Dr. McBrides Complete List of Narcissistic Traits]

The Stranger, My Dad and Me

This week begins Father’s Day  Week on my Facebook Wall.  There are dated pictures of all of my friends and their fathers in Norman Rockwell type pictures with their Dads doing all kinds of activities with them as children.  Most of them have bad haircuts from the 70’s and porn mustaches, but all contain loving and often funny tributes. As I looked through pictures of my Dad and I, I thought I can’t post those, we look like we’re on […]

Both Sides Now…

I was about 15 years old and singing the song “Put your hand in the hand” from Ocean in the back seat of our family car.   That song has a lot of key changes and I was making every one of them perfectly, if I do say so my self.  I used to do all of the parts of a song when I would sing along with it (still do actually).  My brother, Dick was in the front seat […]
