This month I’m reading “The Doctor’s Diet” by Dr. Travis Stork. Each Monday in February I’ll post 3 questions I am pondering as a result of what I’ve read. Most likely you can read some of the thoughts I have while reading this book and have an opinion or answer to some of my questions.
I hope you’ll Join the Discussion!

Question 1: Do you use food to fuel your entire system as efficiently as possible, or are you a unconscious eater?
OPEN YOUR EYES TO BLIND EATING
Mindfulness means more than being aware of what you’re eating—it’s being fully conscious of what is in the food you eat and being honest with yourself about its potential impact on your health.
From my perspective:
I have to work to make food the fuel I need to run an efficient body. Everybody knows an apple pie makes people happy.
What’s your perspective?
Question 2: Will you push food away, or stop eating a meal halfway through it because you’ve realized you are no longer hungry?
GETTING TO KNOW HUNGER
If you’ve been eating mindlessly for years—or even decades—you may be
very much out of touch with what hunger and satiety feel like. Eating mindfully starts with getting reacquainted with these feelings.
From my perspective:
It’s not just getting in touch with your hunger, it’s getting in touch with your body. Finding activities to replace the mindless eating. I doubt if anybody is really conscious of emotional eating…it just happens.
What’s your perspective?
Question 3: What’s your current mind set about food? Is it medicinal, emotional, physical, social or just a necessity?
NOT AN ACCIDENT
The majority of patients in ERs are not there because of trauma or accidents. They are there because of their diets. That’s right: the biggest emergency in ERs across the United States is the food we willingly, knowingly, happily choose to eat.
From my perspective:
It’s like putting sugar in a gas tank and expecting the car to run. Okay, I get that, but I think it’s hard to balance healthy eating with emotion, social and the need to please.
What’s your perspective?
